Valls, birthplace of the castells (human towers) and the Calçotada (grilled spring onion festival), shows us its monumental aspect in such gems as the archpriest church of Sant Joan the 14th Century Capella del Roser, as well as making us feel a part of its characteristic festivals, fairs, traditions and customs.

The Calçotada is the most important gastronomic festival in the whole of Catalunya. More than just a meal, it's a great excuse for organising a get-together of family and friends around the braziers barbecuing the Calçots and the grills roasting lamb and Valls llonganissa (sausage). Not can we possibly fall to mention the Calçot sauce, in which the Calçots are dipped before being lowered into the mouth in the traditional fashion, without forgetting the customary pitet (bib) to catch any drips!.

C A S T E L L S (human towers)
Valls is the birthplace of human tower building ands boasts more than 200 years of tradition. Tare are three colles, one teams, in the comarca: the Vella dels Xiquets and the Joves dels Xiquets, both from Valls, and the Xiquets de la vila d'Alcover. There are two absolutely essential dates on the Valls human-tower-building agenda: Sant Joan, on June 24 th and Santa Úrsula on the third Sunday in October.
